New Dress

While I was in Portland I found a great little fabric store called Josephine's Dry Goods. This store was small, but focused on garment sewing instead of quilting. They had absolutely gorgeous fabrics. I fell in love with a collection called Spellbound and settled on the fabric called "Blue Wallpaper." I knew I wanted to make either a blouse or a dress, but the fabric print was busy so I knew the design had to be simple. While reading Anna Maria Horner's blog, I so her tutorial on this dress and knew that had to be the one. I made a few tweaks to the design to suit me and below is the dress I came up with. I love it and it is the most comfortable dress ever.

  5. I have the same question about sizing. I REALLY want to make this dress, but I have no idea how to size it for me (I wear a 24.) I'd love any suggestions/help

  6. For those of you interested in making this dress, you can follow the directions on Anna Maria Horner's blog, but to find the dimensions for your own fabric, you need to find your hip measurement, then loosen your tape measure to where it has the amount of ease you would like in your garment. Add 2" to this measurement for seam allowances, then divide by 2 to get the width of your rectangle. For the length of your rectangle, measure the length of a dress you like to wear, then add an inch for the shoulder seams and however many inches you plan to take when making your hem. That should give you the length and width of your rectangle for your dress, then you can follow the directions on the blog mentioned above. I hope that helps!
