Jesus Loves Me

Phil's mom came to visit yesterday and was taking pictures of the boys. She happened to capture a hilarious and sweet moment of Ryan singing Jesus Loves Me to Jack. You can check it out on Phil's blog.

Ryan Visits Mommy in the Hospital

My mom has been urging me to post some more Ryan-isms so here goes.

My dad and Ryan decided that we should properly celebrate Jack's birthday by having a "happy cake" as Ryan calls it. My mom obliged and baked a wonderful chocolate sheet cake and brought it to the hospital to share with us. After the cake was eaten, all the guys left for another celebration of cigars and whisky on our back patio, while my mom and Ryan stayed with Jack and me at the hospital. Jack got hungry after while and so I fed him. Ryan was horrified and asked, "Why's that baby chewin' on your boobie?!?!" He couldn't get over it and started sobbing. He's starting to get past this, but is still confused about the whole thing.

Next, Ryan let me know that he needed to use the restroom. I helped him to the bathroom, and closed the door to let him have some privacy. I heard him talking to himself like usual and thought nothing of it. After a few minutes, two panicked nurses came running into my room, asking, "Are you alright?" I said, that I was, and was confused for a moment, until I realized that Ryan had pulled the emergency cord in the restroom. The nurses quickly learned who he was from this incident.

After while, the guys returned and we let Ryan know that it was time for him to go home. He had apparently thought that he was staying the night, or that I would be coming home with him. He immediately had a meltdown that broke my heart, and started saying, "But I need you Mommy, I need you!!!" I heard him all the way down the hallway and past the nurses station. My mom said the only time he stopped was when he was in the elevator and was allowed to push the buttons. When we were discharged the following morning the nurses said, "Oh good, now you can get home and see Ryan." I guess I have a memorable kid.

Now that we've been home a few days, we're starting to settle in a little bit. Ryan told me yesterday that he loves being a big brother and he really likes Jack. He "read" him stories this morning and showed him many of the toys that he has in his bedroom. I'm getting used to having two, which is so much easier than getting used to the first one, in my opinion. I've had a little trouble with the baby blues setting in and some of my same problems with anxiety resurfacing, but the doctor said that would be likely and helped me out with some meds, so I'm doing a lot better and getting my rest. I really do feel a lot better than I ever felt after Ryan, but it does help that Jack has been a very mellow baby. He just melts into me when I hold him and I'm so thankful that he doesn't seem to have the colic or the reflux that Ryan had. What a blessing.

Jack!

Phil had been telling me for a while that Jack is an Ogden and Ogdens are punctual and like things to be planned. Logically, he would arrive on his due date. I was dismissive of this notion, but Phil eneded up completely right. At 12:50 a.m. on June 15th I woke up having intense contractions that progressed to 3 minutes apart in a hurry. Within an hour, we were on our way to the hospital. I had a wonderful nurse who allowed me to get an epidural, even though I had technically progressed to far in such a short time. At 5:20 a.m., I was complete and 21 minutes later, Jack Thomas Ogden arrived weighing 8 lbs. 4 0z. and 21 1/2 inches long. The delivery was really fast, but we're both doing well. He has been a great baby so far (knock on wood) and he and Ryan even napped at the same time this afternoon after we arrived home and allowed me to get a two hour nap. I just hope things continue to go this well.

Ryan-isms

Today is a very weird day for me. Ryan is at VBS (or PBS as he calls it) and I'm not working there this year so I'm not quite sure what to do with my free time. I can't remember having a morning to myself since before Ryan was born and I probably won't have too many more to myself. Anyway, I thought I would share some funny things that Ryan has said lately.

Yesterday, Ryan got up around 6:30 and was sitting on the couch with me. As usual, he asked me what day it was and I said, "Sunday." He then asked, "What are we doin' today?" I said, "We're going to church." He said, "You mean Sunday School?!" I said, "Yes." He got up and ran down the hall to wake up Phil. He told Phil to hurry and get up because we needed to go to Sunday School "right now!" Phil told him that it was too early and he needed to wait until the clock said 9:00. Ryan pushed the buttons on the clock until it said 9:00. He then said, "See Daddy. It says 9:00. Now we can go!"

During Sunday School, the kids were learning about Joseph and his coat of many colors and how God was always with him. The kids were sharing how God is with them. My mom, who was teaching the class, told Ryan that God was even with him when he went to the car show. He said, "No Grandma, that was Daddy."

I can't wait to hear what he has to say about "PBS" this week.

Yellow Shirt

I had been wanting to sew something for myself lately, but I had cleaned up the sewing room in preparation for Jack (it is also his room). I thought that I wouldn't have time for anymore projects. Well, seeing as he is not yet here, and I have time on my hands that I don't need to spend anticipating his arrival, I got all my sewing stuff back out. Ryan and I went to JoAnn's yesterday and found this pattern from Simplicity New Look.

I also found some terrific yellow fabric that was 50% off! I cut out the pattern this morning, and sewed this afternoon while Phil and Ryan were at a car show by Home Depot. I found that the pattern was generously sized (as in it first fit over my 9 month pregnant belly with ease when I first tried it on.) I would suggest going down a size smaller than your measurements would suggest if you were to sew this shirt for yourself. Now I think I have sized it appropriately to fit my soon-to-be (hopefully) not-pregnant self. I'm very pleased with the outcome. The only thing I am unhappy with is that I think my sewing machine is needing a tune up. The bobbin has not been cooperating lately. This problem decided to rear its ugly head when I was trying to attach the sleeves, which made what should have been an easy process, very time consuming.

June 17th

I just got back from my checkup this week.  Jack has stayed put since last week.  I am hoping that he decides to come in the near future, but I did get to schedule my last two appointments.  I will see the P.A. next Wednesday and if Jack still hasn't come by his due date, I will see my doctor on the 17th and I will be induced.
I do like the number 17 for his due date because Ryan was born 9-17-06 and Jack's birthday would be 6-17-09, a palindrome of sorts.  We shall see what the next two weeks bring.  She also said she thought he'd be around 8 lbs., just like Ryan.  Only time will tell.
